How Mom Chased the Supermoon

It all started in July. Mom told me she’d been bitten by a bug.  A photo bug, to be exact. I’m sure the bug was hanging around the birds she always shoots in the nature reserve. Anyway, she ordered a new camera. I was wondering why she was wasting money when the old one still was in one piece. It wasn’t broken. She said she wanted to get closer to everything she shoots. That sounded less than safe. Think if she wanted to take pictures of a snake! Or a lion when she travels to Africa! How dangerous is that?

The tripod…

So the new camera arrived. But mom still wasn’t happy. She ordered a tripod. I had no idea what that was. Anyway, when the package arrived, I saw it was very small. About my size. But then mom shook its legs and it became very tall, almost her size. Exactly like the other three-legged tower I’ve seen in the walking closet on my house inspection tours. Why did she need another one? She said the first one was dad’s and too heavy for her to carry! How can that be?  She can carry a 15 pound dog! Sometimes mom doesn’t make sense to me.

Soon I saw mom put her camera on the top of the new tower and spend lots of time on the terrace. She said she was trying it out to get good pictures of the supermoon in August. But she took pictures of the osprey nest in the nature reserve! She showed me the “close-up” of the nest, but that also didn’t make any sense to me. The nest was empty! She knew that the baby bird had grown up long ago and the whole family had moved away for now. I couldn’t figure it out, but if she’s happy, I’m happy.

I’m walking mom…

Fast forward to last weekend. On Friday we went for our last walk for the day around 9 p.m. Mom took a picture of me with her iPhone. You can see it was dark. She was looking up and looking up. I was getting worried she might step into something undesirable. She said the moon was behind too many clouds. And that she was afraid she couldn’t get any pictures of the moon this weekend. I couldn’t help but wonder if she had bought the wrong camera. A good one should be able to see the moon anyway, right?

Then, on Saturday night we came out just after 9 p.m. But we didn’t go for a walk! As soon as I had done my first item of business, just around the corner of our garage, mom wanted to go in again. The moon was visible every now and then between the clouds, and mom wanted to get her camera! So out we came again with the tall tower in tow. And the camera clued on the top. I did my second item of business. Then we walked on the grass and mom planted the “thing” there. I had to sit next to it.

Supermoon as seen in Florida…

Then mom started shooting. The camera lens was pointed all the way up to the clouds. And the moon, when it made a few  short appearances. I saw the moon too, but to me it looked just like it always does. A bright ball in the sky. Nothing super about it. But it was super hot and I started to get sweaty!  Finally mom said we needed to move a little bit so she could get the moon from between the trees. Now I started panting. We had just parked under the trees where I used to chase squirrels, when it started raining. Phew! Mom grabbed the tower under one arm and me under the other and in she ran! We made it into the garage just when the huge drops hit the ground.

Supermoon Aug 9, 2014

Luckily it was cloudy on Sunday. I got my evening walk again. Everything was back to normal. I hope it’ll be long before mom wants to chase the supermoon again.

Keep well now. Love, Bumble

A Decorated Rescue Dog. Stitches Galore.

Life is hard sometimes. As my readers know, my teeth are not in the best shape after I was given so much candy in my first house. So once every year, in June, I have to go to my doctor’s to get my teeth cleaned. This time it was harder than usual. Let me explain.

After the nice technician took me from mom and brought me to the operating room, I was soon asleep. I was dreaming…swimming with dolphins…chasing squirrels…pleasant dreams. For the longest time. Then I slowly woke up. My gums were hurting. But I didn’t feel any new holes where a tooth would be missing. I guess they were all good this time.

But there was something else. I felt miserable. I tried to sleep on my left side. It was hurting. Then I tried the right side. It was also hurting. The only way I could lay down was on my tummy. So that’s how I stayed until mom came to pick me up.

Sleeping on my tummy...

Sleeping on my tummy…

She took me into her lap in a soft towel. But it hurt! Everywhere. I heard mom saying to my doctor that I looked really funny with this stitches galore. Yeah right, that’s how I felt too. Funny and achy. And when we came to the car, I noticed some bare spots with black thread on both of my front paws as well.

At home mom explained that while I was sleeping and getting my teeth cleaned, the doctor had also removed many skin tags or masses. She said it was good for me to get them removed so they wouldn’t grow to something bad. Then mom gave me medicine that made the hurt go away. I could run and lay on my side again.

The doctor called today...and my tail is wagging.

The doctor called today…and my tail is wagging again.

So today the doctor called mom and told her all of the masses were benign. I don’t know what that means, but mom smiled and hugged me tight, so that must mean something good. And she told me that we’d go back to my doctor’s to get the black threads removed tomorrow. I don’t mind them. They don’t hurt anymore. I see myself in the hall mirror every time we go out, and I think the black spots are quite decorative. But I guess it’ll be easier for mom to brush me when they are gone and my coat grows evenly again.

So I’ve recovered and life is good again. Mom says I’m a trooper, whatever that means. I hope troopers get extra treats. I think I’ll ask for some shortly. I wish you all a great summer. Love Bumble

Selfie! And Other Stuff.

Hi there. This is Bumble. I hope you are all doing good. I have to report on some interesting developments.

First, I went for a long walk in the nature reserve yesterday. I took mom along. She’s a nuisance with her camera. You see, I have to wait for her all the time. And she tells me not to scare off the birds. But I’m asking who is scaring who! This ibis bird scared us both. I promise. He was too loud!

We saw many birds, but I think they were mostly white today. Mom said they all got the memo, whatever that means. Anyway, I was looking for squirrels but couldn’t find any! I wonder if they had moved up north, like the snowbirds. Or if they were just napping after lunch?

All in all it was a very nice walk. I don’t do these long walks too much anymore, so I was completely pooped out when we came home! Mom took this picture of me when I jumped on the bed and tried to make myself comfortable at the head-board between the pillows. I look like I’m out of breath, and that’s the truth. I was still panting!

Second, I was experimenting with mom’s new laptop today. I’ve heard that taking selfies is so much in fashion now. Trending. So I used the front-facing camera and took this selfie! It’s not perfect, but here I go. I hope it’ll go viral. Maybe more people would get my book and support homeless animals 🙂

My Easter Adventure!

Hi everybody! This is Bumble again. I hope your Easter celebrations went well and that you found all the hidden eggs. I found only one. It was very good, but I had hoped the Easter Bunny would have hidden a few more eggs…I guess the Bunny was a bit lazy.

Me and mom last Saturday

Me and mom last Saturday

I also had quite an adventure on Easter Saturday when mom and I went to the Pet Hospital’s Open House! I sat there behind our Book Table with mom and could observe people come and go, many with their dogs in tow. I got nose kisses, including from huge dogs, and many small ones too. And many kids gave me hugs and petted me.

Many funny things happened. Like when people spun the lottery wheel and won a “nail trim” they looked at their nails and said “Thank you, I really need a trim”! But of course it was for their dog. Or when a family decided to do the tour of hospital facilities. They all went in, mom, pop, kids, grandma and dogs. But as soon as they got in they came out again! Their two dogs decided they didn’t want to visit a hospital after all. In that family the dogs were in charge. I smiled! Of course I’m in charge too, but try not to be so obvious about it. It’s better that way.

They had a nice table of snacks and drinks too. I got a piece of cheese! And they had this lottery table. People could win one of two luxury bath baskets for their pet. Or they could win one of my books!

All the monies went to Humane Society, and the big jar was really full of green at the end of the day. I also sold a few books and put the money in the lottery jar. All in all, it was a very successful day.

Have a great week. Love, Bumble

Peachy Greetings!

Hi this is Bumble. I have to start my post by saying that I love our beach! Although I’m not allowed to walk right on the sand. Mom says that babies crawl in the sand and if I accidentally do my business there, it’s not good for the babies. Who could disagree with that? And I would absolutely refuse to wear diapers like they do. Very restrictive.

But we have other beaches nearby where babies are not allowed. They are just for us dogs. So we’re even. Observing the beach from the terrace is fun too. I’ve spotted many dolphins and a few manatees in my days here. No sharks as yet. I guess that’s just a matter of time.

But there are animals on the beach, don’t be fooled. Alligators, like the one here. I’ve seen them when we walk in the nature reserve that borders to the beach. But there is something more exciting in the reserve itself: birds. Lots of birds. They stay in the marsh, mostly.

And if they dare to come onto my walking path, I will test whether they can fly. I have a scientific mind like that. I can tell you that all of them do fly. These Ibis birds too!

We usually go to the park in the morning.  But I love to walk mom in the evening too…she needs exercise throughout the day and it’s my responsibility to ensure she gets it. We rescue dogs take our responsibilities seriously.

And coming home it’s so nice to curl up in the sofa. On my black and white cat pillow. Or even better on the king bed. I can sleep sideways and take more than half of the space if I stretch my legs really long!

Nowadays my life is quite peachy, or is it beachy? Not much to worry about. That’s all for today, I need to go check if there are any new treats in my bowl. The little banana-chicken ones are to die for! Soft and chewy, highly recommended. But mom may have given me carrots. You can read all about that in my book. Oh and I should say, have a really nice and peachy weekend folks! ♥ Bumble
